downloadConstruction Industry Development Draft Act was presented at the Parliament on 23rd of September 2014 by the Hon. Minister of Construction, Engineering Services and Common Amenities. The Institute of Quantity Surveyors made significant representation in the process of development of the act for the overall uplift of the Sri Lankan Construction Industry while maintaining the quality and integrity of the Quantity Surveying Profession.

Certificate Awarding Ceremony along with the AGM of the Institute has been held for the first time in the history. All the non-corporate members enrolled after 1 April 2012 were presented with their membership certificates. The students those who have successfully completed the QS Foundation Course conducted by IQSSL College of QS were to presented the Certificates of Completion the course. The Chief Guest of the Function was Dr Prathiba Mahanamahewa, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo.

AGM 2012/2013 was held on 28 June 2013 at Bougainvillea Hall, Hotel Galadari. As per the Act and the Rules the existing Council continues for year 2013/2014. Upon resignation of Ch QS AMA Malalasekera from the Council Ch QS Hasitha Gunasekera who was an active member in several boards for last few years was elected as a Council member.

Annual Forum 2013 to mark the AGM was too held on 28 June 2013 at Grand Ball Room, Hotel Galadari under the theme “Infrastructure Development Goals: Duties & Challenges”. The Chief Guest of the Forum was Hon Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Construction Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities. The Keynote speaker was Dr P Nandalal Weerasinghe, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The Contribution by the Chief Guest and the Keynote speaker recognized the service of Quantity Surveyors and assured their support in establishing QS Service Minute. The panel members contributed were Dr Priyath Bandu Wickrama, Chairman - Ports Authority, Mr Lakshman Jayasekera Director General - National Physical Planning Department, Ch QS Tilak Kollonne – Director – Vform Consultants and Dr Karunarathna President CIOB. The panel discussion was chaired by Ch QS Lalith Ratnayake. Interactive dialogue was generated among the practicing professionals and personnel from Ministries, Professional Institutions, Universities, Consultants, Contractors and members of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Sri Lanka practicing both locally and abroad.
