Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka BIM Symposium 2017 was held on 10th July 2017 at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 7. The event records the first BIM symposium to be held in Sri Lanka.
The event commenced with the president of IQSSL welcoming the gathering. Ch.QS Suranga Jayasena, senior lecturer and BIM researcher from University of Moratuwa, made presentation explaining what BIM is from technology and practice point of view. A speech followed with the title Innovations and Quantity Surveying by Ch.QS Upul Shantha, Managing Director, Cost Management Services (Pvt) Limited enlightened the gathering on new directions for professionals on the face of modern innovations.
Mr. Andy Ang, Product Specialist, Exactal (pvt) Limited made a presentation titled “Quantity Surveyor’s Pathway to 5D BIM”. His presentation attracted significant amount of questions from the audience, especially on facilities and challenges brought in by BIM QS software tools like CostX.
Ch.QS Lalith Rathnayake, Director, VFORM Consultants (Pvt) Limited, delivered a speech on ICT – Opportunities and Challenges which set the stage to the panel discussion that followed. Mr. Dinesh Perera, General Manager IT, International Construction Consortium; Mr. Sahan Sanjeewa, BIM Coordinator, Shaporji Pallonji International; and Mr. Partha Kinkar Roy, BIM Coordinator, Larsen & Toubro Construction, joined the other speakers of the day at the head table for the panel discussion.
The presentations and the panel discussion generated significant knowledge which helped all participants to better understand the directions for successful BIM adoption.
The event concluded with the delivery of vote of thanks by Ch.QS Majith Kodithuwakku. The event was compered by Ch.QS Duleesha Wijesiri and Mr. V. Jayadarshan.
The BIM Symposium 2017 was organized by the Professional Affairs Board of IQSSL under the leadership of Ch.QS Hasitha Gunasekara. Exactal (pvt) Limited, the producers of CostX software, were the official event partners.
