Purpose of the Graduate Member Qualifying Examinations (GMQE)
The GMQE is an outcome of a special resolution by the IQSSL membership at an EGM in 2013 and ammended in an EGM in 2019.
The GMQE is an assessment of Quantity Surveying knowledge and skills expected from a Graduate Member of IQSSL to work as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor.
Candidates for GMQE shall be Sri Lankan Citizens over 21 years of age by the closing date of applications, possessing Bachelor Degree qualifications in Quantity Surveying and not less than 1 year post qualifying experience in approved employment in the field of Quantity Surveying.

GMQE consists of a written examination followed by an oral examination. The examiners will evaluate the written component and only the successful candidates in written component of GMQE shall apply to register for the oral examination.
To pass the written component, a candidate shall obtain 40 percent for each of the seven (07) modules listed below with an overall average mark of 50 percent at a given offering. A candidate may offer any number of modules, and repeat modules to improve results, until they fulfil this requirement. However, a result of a module is valid only five (5) years from the date of exam.

Pass mark for oral examination - GMQE 108: Quantity Surveying Practice module is 50 percent. Candidates who score less than 50 percent in this module will get one more attempt under the same registration.
A candidate who passes in all eight (08) modules will become eligible to apply for Graduate Membership of the Institute.
The medium of written/oral examinations will be English.
Fees for GMQE
The non-refundable registration fee for the GMQE is LKR 15,000 and the non-refundable examination fee for written modules is LKR 7,000 per module.
Non-refundable examination fee for the oral examination is LKR 6,000 (for two attempts allowed in one registration).

Application Submission
The duly filled application along with the application processing fee of LKR 3,000 shall reach the IQSSL Secretariat, The Professional Centre, No. 275/75, Prof. Stanley WijesundaraMawatha, Colombo 7 on or before Application Closing Date notified.
The application processing fee can be paid at the IQSSL Secretariat or could be deposited in the Commercial Bank, Boralla Branch, Account No.:1208409001 in favor of Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka. Please state your name with initials in the reference box of the Pay-in-Slip. Please retain a copy of the pay-in-slip for your own records and submit the original along with the application.

GMQE 101: Advanced Building Measurement
Preparation of BOQ for Buildings; Writing Preambles and General notes, taking off quantities in accordance with SLS 573 –[Preliminaries, Concrete and Steel Frame Structures, Finishes, Carpentry and Joinery, Above Ground and Below Ground Drainage, Plumbing, Electrical and Air Conditioning Work, Communication and Telecommunication, Fire Protection and Detection and Security systems].
Candidates shall carry an unmarked copy of SLS 573:1999 into the examination hall.
GMQE 102: Civil Engineering Measurement
Preparation of BOQ for Civil Engineering works; Writing Preambles and General notes, taking off quantities in accordance with CESMM –[Preliminaries, Demolition and Site clearance, Earth works, Concrete, Pipe work, Piles, Tunneling, Roads, and Structural Steel, and Railway. Candidates shall carry an unmarked copy of CESSM 4 into the examination hall.
GMQE 103: Contract Management
Documents Forming the Contract, Standard Forms of Contracts, Comparative Interpretation of Contract Conditions, Amendments to Standard Conditions, Contract administration, interim valuations, variations, fluctuations, Extra work, construction claims, Insurance : CAR, CER, WCI, Delay Damages & Penalties, Final Accounts, Construction Auditing
Provisional Sums, Prime Cost Sums, Day Works, Price Escalation & Calculation of Input Percentages, Retention.

GMQE 104: Construction Economics

GMQE 105: Construction Law

GMQE 108: Quantity Surveying Practice
Quantity Surveying Practice (10 minutes presentation followed by a 20 minutes viva-voce).
The Candidates are expected to address their work experience after graduation in the presentation. The viva-voce would be based on the Quantity Surveying Competencies.
